Bur Oak is a long-lived legacy tree with exceptional tolerance of drought, clay, periodic wetness, compaction, and urban conditions. We recommend it for farms, parks, large properties, and restoration plantings where a massive, durable shade tree can remain for generations. Its foliage supports hundreds of caterpillar species, and the large acorns feed deer, turkey, jays, squirrels, and other wildlife. This is not a small-lot tree, and falling acorns or large limbs should be considered when choosing a site.
