Why We Recommend It
Kodiak® Orange Bush Honeysuckle is a tough native-shrub hybrid for difficult sites, including dry shade, clay soil, and sunny slopes. We recommend it for mass plantings and shrub borders where its orange new growth, yellow summer flowers, and vivid fall color can be appreciated. The flowers support bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds, and the suckering habit creates low wildlife cover. Color and bloom are strongest with more sun, and this Diervilla should not be confused with invasive nonnative bush honeysuckles.
Good to Know
• Tough shrub for sun or shade
• Orange new growth and vivid fall color
• Yellow flowers support summer pollinators
Care/behavior information: Trim in spring if shaping is needed. Remove suckers where spreading is not desired.
Warning or placement concerns (if applicable): Color and flowering are reduced in deep shade. Despite the common name bush honeysuckle, Diervilla is not an invasive Lonicera honeysuckle.
Notable wildlife detail (if applicable):
Deer resistant (if applicable): Yes
Rabbit resistant (if applicable):
Special tolerances: Drought; dry shade; clay soil; erosion
