Why We Recommend It
Incrediball® Storm Proof™ Smooth Hydrangea is a compact, strong-stemmed cultivar selected for abundant white flowers that resist flopping. We recommend it for foundation plantings, low flowering hedges, mass plantings, and cut-flower gardens where a tidy, showy shrub is the priority. Bees and butterflies may visit the flowers, although its wildlife value is generally lower than the straight native species. It needs regular moisture, mulch, and some afternoon shade in hot, reflected locations to perform its best.
Good to Know
• Compact smooth hydrangea with strong stems
• Abundant white summer flowers
• Good size for home landscapes and low hedges
Care/behavior information: Blooms on new wood. In early spring, cut the plant back by about one-third to build a strong woody base and encourage flowers.
Warning or placement concerns (if applicable): Not drought tolerant; mulch and water during dry periods. Afternoon shade is helpful where summer heat and reflected sun are intense.
Notable wildlife detail (if applicable):
Deer resistant (if applicable):
Rabbit resistant (if applicable):
Special tolerances: Clay soil; urban conditions; disease resistant
