Great For
• Pollinator and hummingbird gardens
• Prairies, meadows, and naturalized borders

Ecological Benefits
• Rich nectar and pollen support specialist bees, butterflies, moths, and hummingbirds. Hollow stems also provide nesting habitat for insects.
Why We Recommend It
Wild Bergamot is a fragrant native mint with lavender summer flowers that attract bees, butterflies, moths, and hummingbirds. We recommend it for pollinator gardens, meadows, naturalized borders, and sensory plantings where its aromatic foliage and spreading habit are welcome. Hollow stems also provide nesting habitat for beneficial insects. It handles drought, clay, heat, and black walnut once established. Give it airflow and room to move, since powdery mildew is common and colonies can spread vigorously.
Good to Know
• Highly fragrant native mint
• Long-lasting lavender summer flowers
• Exceptional plant for bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds
Care/behavior information: Thin crowded stems for airflow. Cut back in late winter and divide or remove rhizomes where spread must be limited.
Warning or placement concerns (if applicable): Can spread vigorously in favorable soil. Powdery mildew is common, especially with poor airflow or drought stress.
Notable wildlife detail (if applicable):
Deer resistant (if applicable): Yes
Rabbit resistant (if applicable): Yes
Special tolerances: Drought; clay soil; black walnut; heat
