Position Title: Urban Conservation Technician (FULL TIME)

The Urban Conservation program delivers quality urban and residential conservation information to Hamilton County residents. This is achieved primarily through delivery of technical information via one-on-one site visits and development of personalized conservation plans but may also include development of educational programming including workshops and classes, online and print materials, and speaking at community events.
Required Qualifications: See full position description on county jobs website. Reliable personal vehicle required (mileage paid) when SWCD truck is not available for use. Valid license, clean driving record.
Desired Qualifications and Skills: Strong invasive species and native lookalike identification skills. Experience in treating/controlling unwanted vegetation (certified pesticide applicator training/licensing will be provided). Proficiency in ArgGIS online including map creation and data manipulation. Knowledge of urban natural resource issues and related conservation practices (rain gardens, drainage, erosion, native plantings, green infrastructure). Knowledge of prairie/native establishment and maintenance a plus.
Ability to connect with landowners to understand their natural resource issues and stewardship goals. Strong communication skills to help landowners understand options and prioritize based on natural resource concerns and resource availability.
Creativity in problem solving. Commitment to tracking data for program and grant reporting.
Duties & Responsibilities:
The duties and focus of this position vary over time in response to developing natural resource concerns and needs of county residents. Currently, this position is focused primarily on delivery of conservation information related to:
• Backyard conservation – site visits to evaluate natural resource concerns on primarily private property (including private landowners, homeowners associations, churches, etc.). Responding to landowner with personalized conservation plan outlining opportunities to address noted natural resource issues through conservation.
• Invasive species – surveying areas for invasive species and quality native species and developing a management plan to prioritize invasive species management. Support of the Hamilton County Invasives Partnership including co-chairing the technical committee, coordination of the HIP Strike Team including leading volunteer workdays (occasional weekend work), and other HIP tasks.
Work Schedule: 8am-4:30pm Monday-Friday. Occasional night or weekend work required for events. Opportunities for hybrid in office/work from home available in accordance with Hamilton County policies.
Salary & Benefits: $26.08/hour (~$50,856/yr) based on experience. Full county benefits including paid time off, sick leave, paid holidays, medical, vision, and dental insurance, employee health center, PERF and 457 Deferred Compensation plan with matching funds.
