Ecological Benefits
• Berries feed birds and mammals, and dense thickets provide nesting and escape cover. Flowers support small native pollinators.
Why We Recommend It
Coralberry is a tough native shrub for shade, dry soil, slopes, and woodland edges, with clusters of colorful berries that persist into fall and winter. We recommend it where a spreading low thicket can provide erosion control, nesting cover, and wildlife shelter. Small pollinators use the flowers, and birds and mammals eat the berries. It spreads aggressively by suckers, so it is not appropriate for small formal beds, and the fruit should not be eaten by people.

Care/behavior information: Thin or mow edge shoots to contain the colony. Older stems can be removed at ground level for renewal.

Remember that you're investing in a healthy root system—the foundation of long-term success—not simply above-ground height.
