FAQs

Who can have their water tested?
Anyone with their water of interest within Hamilton County. We're focused on well testing, but if you're curious about water testing on city water or have feel you may have a reason to be concerned feel free to pick up a testing bottle.

What are you testing for?
At the water fair we're testing for arsenic and nitrates. At the event we'll send you home with another sampling bottle to test for lead, copper, and bacteria. This is a $40 value.

Besides the Water Fair, our office also offers several other water tests at cost. You can find them, our recommendations, and the price here.

How do I collect the water?
For these tests all you need to do is
  1. Flush the sample tap for 5 minutes. This just means run the water at full power for 5 minutes.
  2. Reduce the stream of water to a normal flow and fill the bottle to the neck.
  3. Replace and tighten cap, with no leaks.

Do I have to stay the whole time?
Nope! This is a drop in type event. Visitors are welcome to come at anytime and stay as long as they like between 9:30 am and 12:00 pm.

What if my test comes back positive for something?
Then you're in the right place! Our office has several resources and programs to help you identify and solve issues with your well water. Visit our Water Testing page for more information.

What else should I test for?
If you're on a well and testing for the first time we recommend testing for inorganics, metals, and bacteria. After that, we recommend a yearly test for nitrates and bacteria. More information can be found here.
